Wheel stud/lug size

Wheel stud/lug size
So i have a general questions. I own a 1997 F150 2x4 4.6 and does not have the hubcaps on the rims. I figures when i went to the junkyard i would grab some. So i did only to find out that they get held on by the lug nuts. When i bought the truck it had some ugly 20 in chrome rims, fortunately seller had the originals. I thought maybe the lug nuts are not original.
Ok, so weeks later when i needed to go to junkyard again I figure i would get the lug nuts off a truck that also had hub caps to make sure they were the same. When i was to put on the new lug nuts they were too big.
Anybody know the details on how many different sizes there are? what models change? anything really . Its not a biggie but i would like to put the center caps on to make the truck look a little bit less ugly.

1997-11/28/99 use 12mm studs/nuts. After 11/29/99 they are changed to 14mm studs/nuts. You need the 12mm ones for your 97. They are hexed and have the washer built onto the nut.
