Default Wheel bearing question

I have a 2002 5.4 4x4 and a question about front wheel bearings. I have a bearing making a growling sound every now and then. It comes and goes and only does it maybe once a week. Anyways i was going to replace the bearing and when i got to the parts store they told me it was almost $300. Is this right or are they screwing up somewhere ?

That is a correct price I replaced mine with timken's and they are holding up great but for the near 600 bucks I had to pay for them they better not be making any noise. I have had them on for about 15k.

You could always do rockauto.com but I think the price is about the same.

Are you replacing the wheel bearing or the whole front hub. I replaced just my bearings for about 50 bucks a side.

I just put 2 brand new ones on my truck and my local NAPA told me 500 each, but my cost was like 350ish......

Mine is a 98 4x4 4.6L

Easy fix though...

^^^Agreed it is a matter of pulling the brake assembly out and the rotor then the wheel nut and three bolts on the back of the hub and thats that. I would reccomend either renting or buying the hub nut socket I think it is something like 32mm but dont quote me.
