Default What would you do?????

My trucks engine is gone it either needs a rebuild or replacement. Well i dont know if my truck is even worth it anymore. I originally bought it for 2300 last june and well it has quite a bit of rust on the undercarraige, cab borners and inside the bed. Sometimes i think i need newer truck like a f150 2004-2005 model. But i dont think i can afford another truck payment. What would yall do?

IDK how your financials are, but if you can score a deal like rcurz, I would put a new engine in it. If you do buy a different truck make sure you know what the common problems are on them and how to check them. For example the 04-08's had a bad design to get oil to the cam phasers so they go out costing you a couple grand.

I just picked up a 5.4 out of a rolled rig with 127K on the clock for $600. 165 compression in all cylinders. You could look for something like that. But I'm kind of with Tackle, sounds like the condition of the truck may not be worth the work to swap a motor.

If the truck is in good shape where it looks good, the interior is nice, it drives and handles good on the road and the tires, brakes, front end components, and drive train are in good shape, I would definitely put a good used motor in it. However, if you have a lot of other problems with it, I think you would be a whole lot happier with a new truck. Your choice of a 2004 or 05 is a good one because I would think you can get a good one for less than $10,000. With the good interest rates around right now, you are probably looking at a payment of around $300 per month and you should have a lot of driving left on it after you get it paid off. I bought my 98 back in the spring of 2007 and it is still going strong

The couple of you that said you found an engine for under 1k, did you install it or have a shop do it? If you had a shop do it, how much did that run you?

Well i have been asking around for 2 weeks in engines and the cheapest i have found one is for $800 and well i will have a shop install it because i do not have the right tools for the job or a engine jack. Frank_ford you are right i can get an 04-05 for under $10,000, so what i did yesterday was call my credit union and ask for a auto loan for $8,000 and i will e putting $2000 down. They said the will call me back today or tomorrow with an answer, so ill see how that goes. As too the condition of the truck i am pretty sure the tranny will give out with the next couple months and it needs all the balljoints and bushing replaced on the front end. i will try to find a picture and post it here thanks guys for your imput keep it coming.....

If you can manage the extra cash I would try to find a 07 or 08 the earlier years of that style had cam phaser and spark plug issues
