Default What width tire can I put on this stock rim?

I asked this in a couple other threads and only got one response, so as the title states. I'm not quite sure what width tire I can put on these rims. I want the round-about 35/12.50/17 or 315/70/17 Wrangler Duratracs or Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ. I'm getting 35's I just don't want to have to buy new wheels yet. Thanks everyone

For 305s you really need atleast a 17x9 nothing thinner

The tire companies "recommend" a certain width but the tires will fit fine on stock rims. DHGFX4 has 14.5" wide tires on stock rims and they fit fine. The tire companies just say that as a formality

cant running a wider tire on skinnier rims lead to wearing the tires faster and cupping them? just wondering as I have never done this before only heard stories...

I'm only going to run these rims for about a year until I can save up to buy the rims I want. Only temporary. Mud Grapplers are almost donezoe and I'm not gonna put 265s back on.

I know a lot of guys run 305's on their 17X9 rims and haven't had any issues, but according to Cooper and my tire guy nothing over a 285/70RX17 should be mounted on a 17X9 rim for safety reasons. I know I take a lot of curves pretty hard sometimes in my truck and the last thing I want is for the tire to pop off of my rim in the middle of the curve. Go to the website of the tires you want to use, for instance I went to Cooper Tires' website, and usually you can put in your rim size and they'll tell you what all sizes they have for the rim size all the way up to the largest size they think will fit safely. Copper states that for safety reasons nothing over a 285 should go on my 17X9 rim.

u might have to get some wheel spacers too since the stock wheels have no offset and your tires will rub

Yeah, I figured that as well. might be cheaper in the long run just to fork over the dough and get the rims I want when I get the tires. Gotta pay to play!

I ran 305/70-17's on stock wheels for years with no problems. Most tire manufactures are going to side with extreme caution on wheel recommendations to keep from getting sued by someone who goes to an extreme tire width vs wheel width setup.

I run 295/70R17 on factory FX4 wheels and no problems. A buddy of mine has a 06 Dmax with stock wheels (16x6.5) and he's running 315/75R16 toyo m/t's and he's never had any problems. So yes it can be done, is it perfectly safe.....probably not.
