1997 5.4 F150 .... I was under my truck and I noticed this red connector was not attached to anything. I do want to note that it was ziptied to the orange sensor. These pictures are taken from the drivers side wheel well and under the power steering pulley. Any Idea on what the red connector does and where it should attach... From my Wheel Well. T This is the red connector but I cant seem to figure out where it goes The power Steering Pulley (Drivers Side) This is the orange Sensor
That harness plug was never used on the F-150... though there's more to that. There was mention of a prototype variable steering system for 10th gen trucks, that never came to be but the prototype system has been referenced by ford engineers in a few publications. You're free to just tape it up, and you might consider it because it just hangs down there getting caked in oil, dirt and water... which could damage the harness. There was a rack and pinion unit that plug controlled on other platforms (Expedition/Navigator), but the trucks never had it. It might not make sense at first to think that to mass produce all the harnesses with the plug was cheaper that to produce a variation without the plug but they were cheaper to make with the plug on every harness."Retooling" to make two harnesses (one with and one without) simply would have cost more... that simple.
