Any suggestions? my vice grips are as tight as they are on there and I'm just pealing off stuff.
Weld a new head or cross bar on to get some leverage.

That possibly was my other thought. You think welding a good size nut on there would be better grip then vice grips .. I guess the little teeth / groves on the vice grips don't really hold tight lol.

You know, after last mix of PB and Mix... I went out after 2 hours, wiggled it with the vice grips on.. and it started going. Phew.. lucky I guess. Now I'm really thinking if I should but bolts or studs in and just put a lot of antiseize crap on both ends in case I have to do this again in 2 years or so.

Looks, good and I cleaned the area up a bit.. before putting studs in, gasket and new exhaust manifold on. I might wait a few months before moving to the driver side.

Also not sure about this stud area in the second photo, looks like it fell apart on one side and chipped away.

im glad you got man but go studs and you should be in good shape if there is ever a next time. as long as there is a clean mating surface for the gasket I wouldnt worry too much.

Decided to spray paint my exhaust pipe, I got tired of looking at the rust spots.

I used VHS rollbar and chasi high temp paint, just some extra paint we had laying around lol. I would like to get a nice RBP tip later on but I don't think that will ever happen.

Lmao mine doesn't have rust holes. My truck is actually pretty clean for being a 97 built 12/96.
