What did you do to your 10th gen today?

My main use for having a gun in the truck is so if I hit a deer or a hog I can put it down instead of letting it suffer. The other reason is there are times where I have a chance to go shooting without planning it,so one of my guns and about a hundred rounds of ammo ride in the truck.
There's a difference between having a gun in your vehicle and having it mounted below your steering wheel so that you can quickly grab it while driving/sitting in the driver seat.
Just seems a bit strange IMO, if that's alright.
If it's meant to be used for self defense, I don't see how on earth you would need to shoot someone while driving, for self defense - unless you were in some hollywood style car chase.

And these reasons would necessitate having a holster below your steering wheel for quick draw access ?

I saw your post in another thread, I know it can be awkward to be confrontational at a new job, but it's completely normal to be be compensated if you use your personal vehicle at work.
At the very least gas should be reimbursed, and really you should be getting paid extra on top of that for wear and tear.
Even if it's only short distances, it's your personal vehicle, it's like any other tool. It's not your responsibility to supply tools for your boss. There's a fine line between being a nice guy and being taken advantage of.
