I think the 3.8's had 65mm TB if I'm not mistaken.

I am planning on a 5.4 lightning swap after the motor dies.

Would that consist of additional/new placement of motor mounts? Is the componentry of the trucks the same regardless of motor size? The 6-banger, at 4.2l, isn't all that different in size from the small V8 so I'm just kinda curious about a swap.

Did a little searching and haven't found a post re: 4.2 - 5.4/5.8 swap.

Im sure the mounts are different as well as the crossmember, then you will need motor tranny, computer etc.

The motor mounts, if needed changed, would be some work but not too difficult. Thing on a 4.2 to 5.4 swap that I'd be checking is the wiring, how much needs done, would the whole thing need redone ( I do not know so just saying things to check on ) and the cpu if it's compatible. Also consider the tranny, drivetrain, is set up for a 4.2 which is much smaller powerwise then a 5.4.

It def prob could be done but I'd check that info before hand as that will give you and indication of just how big a job you are looking at.....

it would be cheaper to sell the truck and just go buy one. unless you just really loved the truck.
