1999 F150 Doesnt Crank
I am new to the Forum but I have got good advise here before. I checked some of the similar posts but still cant figure this one out. Thanks
I have 99 f150 with 4.6 and automatic transmission. Recently it has not been starting. The first time it made some loud clicking sounds twice. I checked everything and tried again and nothing. All lights work radio ect but started doesn't engage. I checked likely fuses and all check out. I tested solenoid and getting 12 volts on big wires but only get 4.5 on small . Doest matter if it's off run or start position. Thought it might be but that's not it either. If I jump from battery to small terminal on solenoid it starts right up and everything runs fine. Seems like ignition problem but can't figure it out. Thanks for any help you can give .

Check the ground of your solenoid. Unbolt it and make sure the bolts are clean. Plus where it bolts to the body is clean and allowing it to ground. Had this issue on three Fords over the years. last one was a 1987 F800 and almost pulled my hair out on it. But it would not even start shorting the solenoid out. Put new one on and still no start. Took it off and put the old one back on. Then a few weeks later it did it again. Tightened the bolts just a bit and it started.
Cleaned the mounting spot below it and all was well and did not do it again.
