Just out of curiosity Spencer2009, would you recommend using butyl tape or actual sealant? I have some Loctite sealant and I'm guessing that would do the job...?

Hmm I. Or spencer2009 but I have used the butyl tape and it's just been rain an no leaks and works great. And easy to put on. So I myself would recommend butyl. IMO

I did it the first time with the window weld stuff and it leaked just as bad if not worse than what it did before. The second time I used butyl tape and it worked like a charm, no leaks for almost a year so far. They say if you use the caulk type it takes a tube and a half but i used half a tube and made a huge mess, I can't imagine what a tube and a half would be like.

So to answer your question butyl tape. Napa carries it for 20$ish for a 20ft roll. Which will leave you with some left over.

I had my rear window resealed in my 2002 screw about two months ago. At first I thought it was my third brake light. The place I took it to explained to me why our trucks leak so much. The beaded gasket that was installed in the factory was essentially a foam bead wrapped in rubber. The foam inside would slowly deteriorate and allow water in. The replacement they put in was 100% rubber so it won't deteriorate like the foam core bead. My KR leather seats sure took a beating with the leak though.

Also, if you have a sun/moon roof, have the glass company clean out the drains for the glass on your roof because it was just add to your leaking problems.

Good Luck!

+20 on regretting it. After siliconing mine, and having it leak again, I decided to fix it right.
The silicone was a complete MF'er to get off. Made a mess of everything.:censored :

Also failed with the window weld caulk type stuff. Only accomplished making a mess on my rear seats with it.

Butyl tape did the trick. Neat, clean, easy, and simple. No more leaks.

I looked over the link for the resealing the window and notice that they show a solid rear window. I have a sliding rear window and have been told that the frame is cracked on each side of the center window and would require a new window to fix that leak. I was told this by the company that was replacing my windsheild, he said that Ford had a recall on the sliding rear windows, does anyone know if there was a recall and if the frame is cracked if there is anything short of replacing the window that you can do?

You can always get a second opinion and see what they say. I thought my leak was from my third brake light but it was just the seal. Where exactly is it leaking from? Have you tried the trick of closing all your windows and turning the A/C up full blast to see if you can feel any air anywhere?

I had not heard of the ac trick, so I just went outside and tried it. I do see some water droplets inside the third brake light so I will be checking the seal tomorrow in the daylight. But I do feel air at the upper corners of the sliding window. Then I took a flashlight and examined it closely and I am able to see a crack on each side just as the man at the widow shop predicted. Has anyone else had this problem of the cracked window frame?

My slider was cracked and the seal was leaking so I went to the salvage yard and got a non slider for 75 and replaced it. You could attempt to seal the cracks but I doubt anything besides replacing it will fix it.
