Valve cover breather Pass side leak?
Alright guys I think I have found the source of my oil leak or at least one of them. I pulled the passenger side valve cover today.
While I was getting the wires out of the way to remove it I found there is a breather hole on the cover that I didnt even know was there. So all around the breather was heavy oil and dirt.
I had actually moved the wires and found the breather not knowing what it was so it pretty much fell out of the valve cover.
Is this thing supposed to have an o ring or something? Do I need to replace the breather? Why is this thing shooting out so much oil?
Also the hose that connects to this breather, its like 2 hoses together and I think they bolt into the throttle body, those pipes going into the tb have oil all over them too, the mechanic said this is blow back at the tb whatever that means.

Ok that would be your PCV valve. It is important so I would absolutely be getting a new one. The rubber insert in the valve cover should hold it snug. If it doesn't get another one of those too. You need to go with motorcraft for the pcv since the aftermarket parts just aren't good enough and can damage your engine if left alone long enough.
If you can get a picture I may be able to get you a couple links for what you need.

I thought the PCV was up by the throttle body on the 4.2?

Omg thats a 20 dollar part and I just rebuilt half my engine trying to fix this leak. My mechanic didnt say anything about a pcv valve !!!
@white on my truck the pcv valve is apparently in the valve cover BUT it is connected to hoses that connect to the part shown in that guys pictures.
Here it is from advanced..https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...982%7CL3*15301
Here is the full set up from my truck...

That PCV in your link is the heated version. Be sure yours is heated, or you are wasting money unnecessarily. If you don't have coolant hoses wrapped around yours, it is the normal version.
