Default V6 vs V8's on long road trips

I just got back from a half country road trip from Vegas to Oklahoma City (2228 miles round trip) and I have to say that I'm pleased with the performance that I got out of my 4.2L with 92K on it. I see alot of folks bashing the "little six" on here, but it pulled my supercab up and down the mountains with the A/C on and did not skip a beat. It did struggle on the 8% uphill grades, but it definitely proved it's mettle with me. Any other "little six" owners out there have similar stories?

I would say if all you are hauling is people and a little baggage v6 is perfect for around town driving and and long trips. what did you average for mpgs? My cousin has a single cab short box 2wd sport with the 4.2 and we drove it from Oklahoma to Georgia nd Oklahoma to Pennsylvania he's got 223k on it and has never let him down. how'd you like ok? That's where i was born and raised. i now reside in Montana.

On the other hand i drove my 5.4 650 miles from Montana to Colorado and held 90 the whole way and i was amazed how easy she handled it.

90! That's way too fast for me...haha. 70-75 is about where I have always stayed on the interstate and the truck did well at that speed. Didn't do the mpg's because who really buys a truck thinking about mpg's? I stayed around 370 miles out of 3/4 of a tank before I filled it up, I don't run it dry so I figure I could have easily got 400 out of a full tank. OKC is decent. I just left there after spending 4 years at Tinker. Too dang windy for this coon *** and it didn't disappoint on this trip as the gusts were up to 45mph.

the difference between a v6 and a v8 is very small as far as long trips go. My 5.4l and my parents v6 get pretty similar performance out of our trucks on long trips

Pulling a trailer with a car on it and a loaded bed? I'd like to hear how that turns out after you get to Ohio. Safe travels on your trip!
