UTI vs Wyotech automotive school

I would never pay to go to one of those schools. Your better off getting hired at a dealership as a maintenance tech or something like that then having them send you to school to become certified on that brand of vehicle. a lot cheaper and less BS.

I am going to a diesiel mechanic school through my local community college. Its an 11 month program 830 to 4 five days a week. They cover everything from air brakes to transmissions to diesel engines abd hydraulic systems. In my area there are a ton of strip mines that I hope to work for someday. When each mine has about 25 or 30 dozers and loaders running and countless trucks 24 hours a day a lot of stuff breaks. There are several career opportunitys in my area for it. Its what I love to do and altho many people have tryed talking me out of it, it is my dream and I'm going through with It.

Ya. I believe NADC is next for a major overhaul. It is a Lincoln Tech school. I have a couple guys I go to school with here in DFW that transferred down from NADC. I have been working on cars for a while, and dealers wont send you right away to their schools. It's even harder now that the auto field has taken a hard hit to companies are canceling manufacture training. On the other hand if you do go to a Tech school(a good one), and you come in the dealer will send you to one. I guess they wanna see that you were willing to make a investment in themselves, before they go out on a limb and invest in you. As long as you stay away from ATI, you should be good!

It's glorified advertising, nothing more. One of my high school buddies did UTI in NC where they have the Nascar program and I don't think anyone from his class got picked up by the teams. Those crews are small and these schools turn out people by the thousands. The motorsport "certifications" don't mean crap for most of the graduates. About the only decent offering would be the manufacturer training but even then if you get hired by a dealer you'll still be going to training regularly if it's a decent dealer.

just go to a CC and get ur AA from there so u can use those credits for something better. Many if not all service departments want to see experiance more then a certificate on a resume. trouble shooting in a lab is far different then doing it in a shop when the customer is waiting on your diagnosis. no matter where you go ur not going to start at B tech salaries. your gonna be the FNG doing oil changes and transmission services. and one big question you get asked on an interview is..."How big is your tool box?"
