Default Truck blowing white smoke on startup and hard rev

Hello
I have a 2001 f150 w/ 70k miles. I changed the oil w/ filter, air filter, and fuel filter about 300 miles ago. I've noticed every morning my truck blows a cloud of white smoke right when I start it up and goes away as soon as it idles. I figured it was condensation but when I got out to smell it smelled like a burning smell. Today it blew out some smoke on startup and it was 90+ degrees out. On the way home I decided to rev it up a little and it blew white smoke plus the tailpipe is now black on the inside. Doesn't smell sweet like antifreeze and doesn't smell like oil. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Also when I was reving it up today it made a squealing sound, maybe that was because I was using my A/C?

Welp. It's probably coolant or oil. You'll need to monitor the consumption of both. I see your in SC, possibly a lower concentration of coolant to water in your system since it doesn't typically get super cold. This would contribute to no sweet smell.

If you haven't changed you pcv recently, I would do so as its about the cheapest possible solution. Other than that, you're looking for a bad intake gasket, head gasket, worn rings, cracked head, cracked piston, etc.

Thanks. I was actually just discussing the PCV valve with my father, not sure it's function but I will change it ASAP. Another interesting thing I have found is if you start it and turn it off, then start it right away it does not smoke. So I'd assume what ever is burning up is building up when the vehicle sits. Also considered a catalytic converter issue but no codes.

I agree with Tackle. I highly doubt it being a catalytic convertor, as they wouldn't be "heated" at the beginning of an engine start cycle. If you get white, it is more inclined to be from the cooling system, rather than any other part of the engine. Hope that helps.
Good luck.

That sounds like a possible head gasket issue to me. I'd pressure test the cooling system and see if it will hold steady pressure for an hour or so. Also check to see if your truck is building up excessive pressure in the cooling system by unscrewing the overflow cap after a short drive.

How long have you owned the truck and is this first time you changed the oil in it?

I've owned the truck since I bought it new in 2001 and have changed the oil every 3k. Also, for everyone else, the coolant reservoir is at a perfect level and doesn't show I've lost any. However it is a very dark blue color and smells like rubber. Had a coolant flush maybe 5k ago.

I should mention that I say it is white but I am looking at this smoke at 5 In the morning when it is still dark. Might not be able to notice a slight blue tint to it. Also a point of note the tailpipes are coated black inside when they were not before.

I asked about oil because if you had just bought it and were doing the first oil change on it a previous owner could have covered up problems with Lucas ect... But that is ruled out.
A few things I'm thinking.
Oil control ring problem leaves too much oil on cylinder walls, this oil settles puffs out when first started.
Fuel pressure regulator gone bad.
Minor crack letting water into cylinder that's seals up when running.
Leaking injector that's bleeds into intake.

Just thinking out loud. Has mpg dropped?

can't say for sure on MPG. Still working on his tank before I fill it up and then I can calculate it. I'm hoping I recorded my last mileage. I pulled out the PCV valve today and it was a little oily. Didn't seem stuck or anything cleaned it out with carb cleaner...figured it couldn't hurt. Thinking about pulling my spark plugs to see if there's any obvious signs of oil or buildup. Other then that I can't see what else I can do to figure this out short of taking it in to a mechanic.
