Trouble Starting
Hello everyone,
I am new to the site and was hoping someone could give me some advice about my truck. I have a 97 F150 4.6L engine with about 140K miles on it. I have taken great care of it and it has worked beautifully for years now. Just recently it has started giving me trouble. I was driving on the road the other day and the truck's engine just died. I could not get it started and had it towed. The mechanic told me it was the fuel pump which sounded logical.
Mechanic replaced the pump, new spark plugs and new spark plug wires and the truck worked for about a week then it died again. Had it towed once more and the mechanic thought it was a faulty fuel pump so he replaced it. This time it did not turn over.
The truck tries to start, all the lights come on and the starter sounds like it is trying to start the engine (aka a normal start) but it will not turn over. The mechanic has put power to the fuel pump and it works well so he is assuming it is either some power issue from the engine to the pump or the anti-theft device trying to immobilize the truck (It has a factory security system no after market products).
Does anyone have any ideas of what is going on? I looked on numerous forums but it have not found any help yet. The mechanic has had the truck for 4 weeks now trying to figure it out and is at a loss so the next step is taking it to a larger Ford dealer to see what is up.
So does anyone have any ideas? If the alarm immobilizes the truck is there a way to deactivate it to see if it is that, change the wires for the fuel pump or something else????
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
