Default Tread life on new tires

Hey guys just got a new set of Goodyear wrangler silent armors installed on the truck and have 15 more days to swap out if I want something a little more aggressive. I'm thinking about the new bfg tko2 all terrains. What kind of treadlife are you guys getting out of them? I've seen a a few people with the original tko and they wear rather quick properly rotated.

I was talking to my neighbor about these when I was looking for new tires, he has the BFG tko2's on his Chevy, he said he had about 40k miles on them, and they still have a bit of tread left. I would imagine he could get 50k easy out of them. He did tell me that they do not like loose gravel, he went out hunting for a couple weeks and he said the gravel roads pretty much destroyed the tire. I would imagine though that a lot of travel on gravel roads would destroy any tire, but I don't know. That's all the info he gave me.

I had a set of BFG All Terrains on my Jeep years back and I promise you they wear like friggin iron!

Highway driving I had close to 50K on them. Off road performance they left a lot to be desired while on wet sloppy trails and when in the rock garden. Fire roads and dry hunting trails they were OK

I got about 35,000 out of my silent armors before they were down to 1/8 tread. But I was road warrior at the time...always had a trailer in tow. Rotated 4 wheels often and they wore pretty evenly.

btw- these were FORTERA's SA's. If I could find Michilens in the size I wanted, - man that would be cool as hell. Easily worth paying more for.

Hmm..gives me something to think about. I had bfgs on my old tahoe that were amazing in the winter, the silent armors have great tread but I have never had them and dont want to be left hanging wanting more out of the tire once winter hits here in Wisco. Off topic RedFord, I am looking into the Bora wheel spacers. I've seen you had wheel spacers before on your truck, how wide were yours? I am looking for smallest width I can run without having to grind the lugs...

I had 1.5" adapters, and had to shave my lugs, but I also upgraded my lugs because I thought it would be a good idea for all the weight my new tires where going to put on lol. I am going to say 1.5" is as small as you can go because I know my new lugs are just a hair longer than my stock ones, and I didn't have to grind that much off, just a quick tap with the grinder and I was good lol.

That goes without saying, and I know everyone is waiting for me to say it. Look up the dangers of spacers before you buy them and make sure you are alright with the risks. Some have ran them for years without issue, and other like myself didn't get a week out of them before a tire came off. Yeah I bought the cheaper ones, but wheel spacers will have more leverage on your hub.

You won't be wishing "I had better tread" in winter time.

Any new tire is going to be better than worn out tires. Unless you're going with tires made for snow, the difference between good brands in negligible. Keep the silent armors unless you're going for looks alone.

Tkos are known for their good tread life and performance, the reviews reflect that but so do the silent armors.

And redman, as you said if the roads were so bad as to destroy tires in 2 weeks of hunting, none would stand a chance. I'm guessing he rubbed the sidewalls on rocks while finishing his 6 pack, or was just hoping you'd go away.

I'm a fan of the BFGs and have always hated Goodyear!

I will never own a set of M/T's again. They are horrible in Ice. Also if you dont need the add traction in mud they arent worth the buy. My 03 had Goodyear Wrangler AT/S. Truck was on its 3rd set of tires when I got it. It only had 215k on the truck. I been more place with Goodyear At's and BFG At's than any mud terrain. I also hate the ride as the begin to wear.

Alright guys I ended up swapping out for the tko2 today. Great choice. I had a 265/70/17 LT C Goodyear silent armor on and they swapped at no extra cost a LT E 275/70/17. This new tko2 rides smoother AND quieter than the silent armors did in a C rating. Would have loved to have gone 285 however I didnt see barely a .5 inch difference worth an extra $25 a tire. Will post a pic soon
