transmission swap

Default transmission swap

hey i was wondering if a transmission off a 1998 f150, 4.6 4x4, will fit on a 2000 f150 same engine size and also 4x4?

Yes, you can fit 33's!

Yes, they both should be 4R70W's. Even if it for some reason the '98 has a 4R100, the bell housings are the same, it'll bolt up too.

The speedo's are different.

how are the speedo's different and can it still work, might put a 1998 auto 5.4 4x4 trans into my 03 auto 5.4 4x4 any other issues?

97-98's are gear driven, 99-03 are electronic.

how hard is it to change from gear driven to electronic? or is it even possible?


also does anybody know of any threads on here or elsewhere with instructions on how to do it? I cant seem to find any and this is a much bigger project than ive ever attempted before.
