Default Transmission Exchange

I have a 1997 F150 4.6 L 4X4 Automatic, that needs a new transmission as it has lost 4th and 5th gears. Are the two transmissions noted below interchangeable? IF so can it be any year that these transmissions were made?

The truck has the F65 in it however we cannot source one so we are going to change to the f75 if possible.

A.T., 8-280 (4.6L), (4R70W, AODE-W), 4x4, ID F65P-CA

Thank you.

The salvage yard says the electronics will not match up. The Ford dealer says that the two ARE interchangeable and that there should be no issue with the electronics. This has me worried that I am getting conflicting information and I therefore wanted to check the forums to confirm one way or the other.

I would listen to the Dealership, if you have the old one out compare them side by side if the salvage yard will let you. Also look at http://www.fordparts.com/, maybe it can help also. I would make sure also. I will do some research also and see what I can come up with.
