Yep trans pan is plenty. No other crossmembers need to come out and an inch or two is more than enough.

Yea , the 6 bolt heads on each side of the support are locked into the frame rail on the outside. You have to get them from inside...no room for an impact.
The Ford procedure is to support under the engine oil pan. But you have to span the pan so you don't cave it in, crush it. I support the transfer case as well, but it isn't easy to support back there. Two floor jacks work best.
Anyway, it's all in the manual if someone would post the procedure for yuh. But yea, you can use an impact for all of 30 seconds to remove the 2 mount nuts, I do , it's not a big deal to grab the impact.

You're saying support the engine oil pan? Not the transmission pan?

Absolutely! You use a block to span all corners under the oil pan and then back by T-bar cross over per direction and for the E4OD/4R100 models. Apparently, I'm guessing now due to lack of info and since your spanning the trans pan, -the 4r70w's are much different, this I did not know. No way in hell can support anywhere under the pan on the E4OD. Unless you used a trans jack that supports perimeter only. That would be one bulky contraption..who wants to work around that lol. The pan is huge with many elevations. Factory used on these trucks (97/98 E4OD/4R100), can't span them for support as they are not flat. They also have a pipe thread plug incorporated, which adds more elevations across the bottom. 4R70W must be much different ehhh...as in flat bastards lol.

Damn, -wish you had side shot, curious to see how much wear was on it. I have mine out, it's fine, - the top plate and bushing is toast. Is there a plate like this on the 4r70w's ? Sits between the trans and the mount. Tied to a exhaust damper bushing. A dual damper that supports the Y.
