Default Tranny problems need help

So I have been havin some tranny issues the last few days, it all started when I'd come to a stop at a red light or stop sign. I'd go to take of again and it was like the truck was in neutral for a moment and it would pop back into first after a little throttle was applied. After it got into gear it shifts perfectly fine no slipping shuddering or hard shifting.

So I checked the fluid it's all good, but just to try a quick fix I drained a quart of fluid and added a bottle of Lucas. Still doing the same thing.

Today I went to go drive it, put it in drive and same thing but worse, it was completely in neutral had to keep of revved up to about 3k rpm to get first to engage, but then same thing shifts completely fine. I moved it across my street and parked it. The od light started flashing so I pulled the codes on my edge.

P0722- output shaft sensor no signal
P0720- OSS sensor circuit fault

Is my tranny toast or could these sensors be causing the problem?

Well one or two things, those sensors are designed to pinpoint where problems are happening. Or two, the sensors are bad. My trucks output shaft speed sensor is broken, and its all messed up over it. Search the web, first figure out wut transmission you have. It's either a 4r70w or 4r75w (4r100 if u have a f150 7700)
But then locate those sensors and change em out if u want,

Id like to hear more about what the problem was considering my 98 just started doing the same thing today and I just had the 4r70w transmission rebuilt 30,000 miles ago. haven't had time to pull the codes but its doing the exact same thing as described.

What was the fix ??

You need to troubleshoot where the loss of communication happened. With out the output shaft speed the pcm has no clue whether to engage the shift solenoid or not..

Never use Lucus in a Ford, - anywhere. Do you at least know what engine you have?

Just replace the OSS, since that's the problem and I'd do a fluid exchange now. I'll guess you have the 4R70w. As those age you need to be nicer to them. Cleaning accumulator bodys, pistons, shift kit (new springs) and amsoil. It'll go another 100,000. You wanna use the best stuff now. If your trans ever starts to slip out of the blue and you have NO DTC's telling what the problem is, - use a bottle friction modifier to get you by. Same stuff you use for the LS rear ends.

Good for you. Sure back in the day maybe, - not with 10th generation engines plus. I don't BS, there's no sense in it. Never be afraid to learn kid, - you'll get even more miles.
