You just dangerously overloaded your truck, it is a very bad idea, especially in mountains. I sincerly hope you had a proper brake controller on the truck too, otherwise you are lucky just to be alive.

Unless your "right equipment" includes a bigger engine, transmission, axle etc, you are wrong. The absolute maximum that your truck could be rated for is 7,700lbs, with the reccomended towing around 3,000. You have overloaded your truck by 2,300lbs more than it should have ever been expected to pull.

No idea on stock specs, every truck is different. You should have paid attention when you cranked them.

Just because you've done it before doesn't make it safe or a good idea. I was going of of the 1999 information, you are correct, your truck is rated up to 8,400 with stock tires. You have overloaded your vehicle by at least 1,600lbs. Just because the same motor is used in a different truck, doesn't mean yours has the same capacities.

The f250's also have 3/4 ton suspension, bigger brakes along with a few other things that I'm missing.

Do you honestly think that turning up your FRONT suspension helped your rear suspension from squatting when you hooked your trailer up?!
Ha ha ha!

I do a lot of towing for work. The truck I use is a 00 f450 with the 7.3. Has a flatbed with toolboxes. The truck fully unloaded is 10k lbs. I've put 2 full pallets of cement and bentonite on the bed (3.5k lbs each) with a triple axle air compressor that weighed in at 16k lbs with the brake controller malfunctioning. My point is, if you know what your doing and use common sense you can tow more than rated safely.
