Default Tran Temp Gauge and pillar pod.

I have a 02 screw and will be towing an RV this summer, I have the towing package and I want to add a Tranny temp gauge on a pillar pod and I have a few questions. I know I want an electrical gauge, but were do people recommend to mount the sending unit? I was thinking about the line that comes from the tranny to the cooler. Also, is there something different with the A-pillar on the 02, from other years of the same generation? And what make/model of gauges do people recommend?

I think the general consences of the best sending unit location is the test port on the left side of the tranny, by the shifter linkage. As for gauges autometer makes some really nice one that match our gauges nicely (look at the GS series). If you want something cheaper i would recomend Glowshift gauges. I've had both and found the accuracy to be as good on the glowshift as on the autometer. Now as for the A pillar pod, mine is an '03 and I have a grab handle and i don't know about the '02's, but i believe there's nothing special just remove the handle and install the pillar pod over top.

Thanks mitch885, I see you are in ON, where did you pick up your gauge and pod?

Ha Ha I haven't installed any gauges in my ford yet, however I think either ebay, Amazon or summit racing has the best price. The thing is I get everything shipped to a po box in the states and go over and pick it up myself. I have no idea where to get it in canada, well for cheap.

Yea, that is basically the same thing I have done before, except I used one of those border holding locations. They ussually charge $10 per package to hold it for 2 weeks. Then you drive across pick it up and come home. When is Canada going to wise up, free trade my *****.

I am thinking of ordering the AutoMeter 3849 GS series, and a singe gauge pillar pod from gaugepods.com. Is the test port on the transmission just in front of the shift linkage? And do I have to drain the tranny fluid before installing the sender unit?
