Torison Bar Lift concerns
I have a 2002 f150 s-crew fx4 an was researching a torsion key lift from daystar. I have a local 4wheel drive specialty shop which is the local dealer of daystar torsion keys. I am planning to go up in size from a 265-70-r17 to a 285-70-r17. I assume I would only need a two inch lift to pull this tire size off so i thought new keys would be the way to go. While talking to them they informed me that a customer had my model year and that the new torsion keys put so much strain on the front shafts that they broke twice. So they had to get with Fabtech to fab up a two inch drop bracket for the front drivetrain to fix this problem. Now I will admit I am not a full blown automotive mechanic but i do know my way around my truck. I have never heard about this problem from any other dealer. Has anyone else heard of this , or is this shop owner just trying to pull my chain . Thanks for all the reaplys

i havent heard of them breaking either... i have mine cranked all the way and i've had the front tires half a foot to a foot off the ground and they havent snapped lol. that was when i had my stock 31's tho. you should be fine even if u crank em all the way

Thanks , ya i think with only goin to a 285 i am just goin to crank the torsion bars a little. I mean all i want to do is get rid of the tail in the air look an run a slighty bigger tire , i need new tires but i dont need to drop almost four grand on a lift wheels and tires . I have plans to have a sport bike by next summer an with this route I can still do that , so thank ya'll for your input

The more you crank your bars up the more stress you put on your front end as a whole. A common problem with cranking them to the max is your cv joints going bad. Recording your stock measuremants (from level surface to wheel well, and the measurements of your adjusting bolts at stock position) makes it easy to reverse. Its one of those things that some people have good luck with, and some people dont.
