I have a tool box that I modified in my '88 and a tool chest in my '99. Love both of them. Especially in a regular cab pickup. Gives me tons of extra room for tools and also all my hunting gear. I rhino lined the tool box and it has held up good. My opinion is get one. They are super handy.

You can get the tool chest style... That's what I am running in mine (currently redneck style on blocks in my screw). Dont know how well it will work with the hard cover, I doubt you would have very good access to the box. Cover will keep tool box top from opening all the way. I couldnt get mine to open all the way with a camper shell (old truck). I would recommend a smaller box (plastic would work under cover) or maybe an undermount style box (like you see on flatbeds) setting in your bed, that way you would have front access instead of top. Just my $.02

Mine would fit under a tonneau, your just have to open it to open the box and its not bolted in so if I need the extra space I can unhook my cable lock and take it out. But it's been more of a help than a hindrance so far.

My tool chest is very similar to BrowningScrew's. I have a chain on each side and its padlocked to the stock tie downs that way I can remove it. And I built a wood shelf for inside to hold my tow straps and hitch and other junk I never use.

I've decided against a tool box for mine for space reasons...I got a truck so I could haul stuff and use it as a truck...I didn't want to cut down on the bed space by putting a tool box in it.

you could pick up a bed extender too. thats what I had to do. After putting my box/chest in (and lifting box) I literally had 3ft of bed space so I picked up a used bed extender on CL to get buy until I can afford to upgrade to a 157" screw.

That's always a possibility
