What does height of the tire have to do with wheel width. The wheel don't care how tall the tire is as long as it is the proper width. Hell you could put 44's on an 8" wheel as long as it is narrow enough. If you look at tires online it will give you the range for wheel width. Different tire manufacturers have different ranges for there sizes but generally in the same range.

Yes however if you take that chance you can have bad center wear if the wheel is to narrow. It can also cause extra stress on the tire and wheel. Causing tire and wheel failure. Going down the highway at 70 is not the time I would want to push the envelope.

there is no proof it causes extra stress nor is there proof it causes any type of failures. Many people run it and have no problems its just the tire companies trying to cover their asses in every way possible

I Like Tires
Although I don't reccomend it, in fact I highly discourage it. I did mount a set of 365/75/16 (38/14.50/16) BFG KM2's on some 8" wide rims and they fit, he is just probably gonna wear out the center of the tread really badly.
My friend has 345/75/16 (37/13.50/16) BFG KM2s on his 8.5" rims and they fit a lot better but they are still an inch out of the "recommended rim width range"
