Thanks for checking in,Brew... I talked to him in depth about it today.... he told me the damage that I have is 100% plausibly caused by that bike accident. There was one other time that I explicitly remember my left shoulder popping out of joint while tightening a header flange bolt on my 89.... and it's been hellever since. The damage in the pics doesn't really look like the header incident would cause it.... but it could have brought the arthritis into play.

Dang man, looks like they used two #8's and a 10....stainless steel or titanium I expect. They look like lags lol. One in the center anyway..
He told me today he thought I would feel pretty good at 3 months. I might need to make this a Novemberish surgery. Dang kids will need to operate the snowblower though.
