I started messing with the Explorer tonight. Turns out the water pump is NOT what is squeaking. When I'd give a little "toot" of Kroil on he WP, it would stop. So I was led astray. A 6203 and 6303 bearing in the alternator, and it's squeak free. Well... the alternator is. Still gotta put it back in. But it runs smooth in the vise.

The alternator is weird... I noticed that it was not a 3G, but also not a 6G... it looked like a hybrid of the two. I did a little research, and there was a 4G. Never knew that. Learned something new today. It's wired like a 6G... but a 6G has bigger bearings.

Going to be an interesting weekend+ keeping the garage warm. Normally, it only gets really cold at night so I fire up the heater in the evening, get it warmed up, let it cool overnight, and restart the heater in the morning for a short bit if necessary.

This thing has two burners and three settings. Each burner is 8,000, 12, 000, or 14,000 BTU per hour. Going to see where things sit in the morning, and I think I'll start with running it at 8,000 constantly, and see what the temperature out there does.

I have most of a 30-lb tank, and 2 20's, so I should be able to keep things above freezing out there until Monday when I can get refills. (I might top off the 30 tomorrow if it feels like it's getting light.) Worst case is I pick up a Blue Rhino tank if I absolutely have to.

Was it in this sun forum? I ran across a diode kit that boosts a common 130A alt to 200. Now, to MY mind, this seems imposserous as no windings have changed. I hope I kept notes. I hope it works and I am wrong.

We're supposed to have AM snow. I need to throw that Explorer back together.... I ran out of daylight, plus I struggle when I can't feel my digits.

Nice find, Brew! I don't even know where my old desktop went to (the one I built). After my Buddy gave me the Dell server (it uses server RAM, and has a Xeon CPU), I put all of the drives into that. It's running 11 now, and it's a fast running machine.

Bill... I'm not sure what the "sun forum" is.

I agree. Good that you picked Azuz, Brew. Good brand. Or were, way back in my day. I used to build a few puters, or teach how to. Unsure I ever dealt w an Azuz MB, but it seems likely.

This is the changing of the guard. Many guys my 70+ age forget lil but critical stuff, and have to lean on you guys. But to stay even as good as we are, we must stick our necks out and ask or suggest things. They did a study on Hugh Downs, as he had a v good memory, and found his hippocampus had shrunken, but not as much as w most older guys. They attributed it to his near constant reading and critical thinking that he practiced more than daily.

So - thx for all of you tolerating me and helping my '01 4x4 Space Odyssey, which unlike me, is repairable, even upgradable. Muchisimas gracias.

I edited it... Some other forum, I believe. Or other sub-forum.

The font in reading is larger than when I type or edit. Not sure how to, or if I can even, adjust the font size for entering text into the forum, so I can more easily read and correct it as I go. I need to finish setting up my new HP elite laptop. I've been dependant on my not small, android ph. My thumbs are not too dainty.

I don't recall talking about changing the diodes for more output. I agree, it would also need rewound.

I did change the rectifier on a 3G that I probably posted pics about.
