A rare day here in the gap of the coastal mountains that funnel cool air from the Pacific 2.2 miles to my house, and planes.from SFO using it as headwinds. A gentle breeze or the 75° would be too warm. One white Cabbage Butterfly did 2 circuits of my native-rustic front yard and left, disgusted at the slim pickins. 2 odd small planes flew in formation(!?!) in advance of fleet week and the Blue Angel's arrival. And in the near silence, I could just make out the melody of a 5 second dyno run, being 3-4 blocks away. 😋

At least you'll know when to change you own without question.
It's bothered me for years, this idea that modern, synthetic oil is only good for a year. Now we know that this myth is as old-fashioned and wrong-headed as "Fram filters are no good".
I appreciate you posting that CO. It's good to know that I don't need to feel horrible if I go a couple hundred mile over my usual intervals. I've programmed myself to change it at 5000 with full synthetic. I've never lost a motor, and I attribute that to my maintenance schedule.
Like Dave's Auto says.... "do your maintenance, I'm busy!"
EDIT: I also have not changed the oil in my 89 for probably 2 years. It probably only has 800-1000 miles on it. It's dino oil though - 10W30 Valvoline.

I agree. I do all my maintenance religiously... but the maintenance guides were written before these modern oils and filters, and bringing them into the mix changes the religion. Intervals have widened, even by factory recommendations. I'm glad I finally have this question answered.
Maybe I'll get an analysis on my trans fluid, whenever it needs to be changed (also synthetic, with ~7kmi on it). I'll bet the same applies there.

I use 5000 too, except for the Civic that has a 7500 mi monitor. My 150 oil looks and smells clean. Also, some older oil filler caps let constant air changes through, from expansion and contraction. In some cases, this added moisture to the oil.

The way I look at it... your oil was in good shape BECAUSE you do your maintenance. I feel like that skews the analysis a bit as opposed to doing a sample of a neglected motor.

Reason: corrected grammar

My plan for the day was to do wheel bearings on the Toyota. I got it up in the air, and I decided it needs more $4!T than I thought it did. I'm going to order some struts, end links, and maybe control arms for it. The struts are definitely shot.
AND.... My Wife saw this at the store and got it for me to give a whirl.
