Sounded like you were contemplating it now. I missed something then.
It was more than 10 years ago for me...like I said in so many, things are diff now. More choices and better controllers I expect.
My Lexus is a tougher challenge because it has a fraction of the depth to play in that the F-150 has. I never even considered the depth when I did the F-150 - I just sourced a fan and did it. Now I have a challenge because of the shallow depth.
I'm sure the controllers are better now. The one I use in the F-150 uses a PWM approach to soft-start the fan, eliminating the massive inrush current these good Ford fans produce, and then they throttle the fan speed based on the needs of the engine. This is where they make so much sense - they apply cooling when you need it, and shut off when you don't, unlike the mechanical fans, which require engine speed to do anything. With the Mk VIII fan in my F-150, it's never run at 100% since I bench-tested it - that's how good it is.
I'm doing it because of the A/C issue. It builds pressure like crazy at idle.... and I think it's because it's too warm.
Oh, btw my controller in the F-150 turns the fan on with the A/C clutch, and I can confirm it gets colder with the e-fan than it did with the stock fan. Not sure if that translates to reduced pressure.
Correction: if/when I sell the truck, I'll go back to the noisy, power-robbing antique. I'm not giving away a Mk VIII fan!
Thought about doin stuff like that with mine....but...it just seemed wrong for some reason. Enough so to leave it alone anyway....plus I'm naturally lazy now lol.
That would be fairly simple to add a relay to kick it on high when the A/C clutch is engaged.... I'll have to draw that out when I'm not almost asleep.
I really, really dig this thing.
I am pretty confident in saying this fluid has never been changed before. It was amazingly clean in there. Very little on the magnets... the "chunks" in the pan are rocks that fell in when I hit the frame on the way out.

Yes it did. That's seven quarts it pulled out of the pan. I also used it to fill the pan.
Not sure if you guys are familiar with the 6R80 dipstick and cap setup. But it makes it a special experience to check and change the fluid. You have to go from the hole on the side of the trans, where a conventional dipstick would go.
It's about 4 inches long....maybe 5 inches....
Here's a better representation of said fun experience.

Yes... another friend of mine has a 2019 with the same thing.
Someone makes an aftermarket setup to make it like the old school style. Think it's B&M that does it. If this were my truck, I'd do it in a heartbeat. The 10R80 is the exact same thing too.
