Well Napa had a hard sell... they can get theirs (which he confirmed is just a carter pump) today by 4:30... beats rock auto getting here Tuesday after I’m gone for work. Hoping it works!

Back in the days with mechanical fuel pumps, Carter and Airtex were very good brands. I had no problems with either fuel pump.

Oh my lord is it always something
Fuel pump bolt is stripped. On the timing cover side at least. Now deciding between a new cover or helicoil insert

I hate that lol. Well, just have to make sure you can achieve torque with the Heli-coil plug. Check what you need, then confirm the heli-coil can meet spec. That's what I would do anyway...unless I had a spool gun handy. With an SG you can professionally repair..better than new if your any good.

Hi,
You could get a used timing cover from a wreaking yard, some even send parts out in the mail I am told.
E-Bay is good for used parts too.
please forgive me I am not up to date with the terminology nowadays what is a “SG”

An SG is a spool gun where the spool is actually on the gun... and Brew is talking about it for welding aluminum (timing cover).
I've seen some pretty incredible repairs in cast aluminum before. My Buddy has a guy he uses to weld bell housings and cases. He does fantastic work!

I'm guessing that 2100 has a FE block in his truck. If so, The TC on those is easily tapped to the next size bolt without much problem. Those old pot metal style castings, were always stripping out fuel pump bolts. You go to socket head screws, to alleviate any size problems clearing the housing.

Yeah I thought about just getting a new housing but that will probably wait until I pull the motor in a couple of years. I don't want to take everything off AGAIN if I do not have to lol.
I might even be lucky, if I can get a nut down there I could run a longer bolt. On this truck tho, I am usually not that lucky
You got it akdoggie. I have an fe360. I have read stripping the bolts are very easy to do if the cam is not in the right position cz the pump will go on at an angle and you have to use the bolts to pull it down... which then strips the aluminum. That is exactly what I did and lesson learned the hard way; always rotate the cam so the eccentric is out of the way so you will not strip it the bolts
I mean really re tapping, helicoil, or new housing is not a big deal on this engine I am really more frustrated that every time I go to fix a problem I find 2 more. Traveling for work makes the jobs take 3x as long which frustrates me more cz I just want it together so I can drive it lol
