Default Testing POR15 to The Limit

I'm currently having some rust problems on my 2002 F150 as a result of it living on the OBX from a few years. I was going to sell it but I've decided to try one last shot at saving her.Most of the rust is on the frame and radiator support. The body is VERY rust free with the exception of the bottom of the inside front quarter panel were the drivers door is.I've ordered well over $300 of POR15 and boughtover $60 worth of supplies from Lowe's. I am going to use my old 68' F100 as a daily driver till I can get this one back on the road. After the 2002 F150 is done its going to be the F100s turn. My plans are as follows;

Remove Trailer hitch and coat with POR15 and Chassis Black

Remove spare tire and coat with POR15 and paint with Argent Silver

Frame is to be sanded and coated with POR15 and Chassis black wherever there is sufficient rust to make necessary

Driveshaft, fuel tank gaurd is to be POR15 coated and painted with Chassis Black

Body panels are checked over and painted with POR15 and then touched up

Rancho shocks are POR15ed and then painted white again.

I will post before and after pictures and keep the topic updated on my process so if anyone else is planning on doing the same they have an example.

I belong to another forum that is specifically for 5th gen F- Series and over there its commonly used on those trucks with good results. I've heard its all in the prep work so hopefully it all works out. Like I said one last shot at keeping this truck, if it doesn't then time to find something a little less rusty.

How bad is the rust on the body panels? Are there holes? I've been using Por-15 for about 18 years, I think it works as long as the prep is done, the prep is the key. You can paint over the por-15 but you have to use the tie coat primer, I'm sure you know that. I'm just finishing up the body of my 98, The frame is next I'll be using the chassis coat on that, the bad sections will get both por-15 and chassis coat. Good luck with your project. Any questions feel free to ask.

I'm sort of confused on if I need to primer overv the POR15 to put Chassis Coat Black. Can I just rough up the POR15 then paint it? What about the Argent silver for the spare?

Yes you can put any por-15 product over por-15 without the primer. You only need the primer to paint non por-15 over por-15. Now I've totally confused myself..lol..

I'm still working on prep work now but I'm also adding some Eastwood Internal frame spray into the mix.I'm going to go get a DeWalt angle fringed and a sand paper flapper disk to help with the sanding.

Make sure you wear gloves when using the por-15, it is a permenant marker takes awhile to fade off your skin. Good luck and have fun.
