I just don't understand why people are whining "poor Ford".

Who said "poor ford"? It's a matter of maintaining your vehicle. Steel rusts. It happens. Get over it. Being from Maine I have seen every make of car with broken tank straps. Those cars were not recalled. Just people trying to get something for free. Like yourself... You get enough free loaders together you have a class action lawsuit.

I called today and my VIN is on the recall list. Taking it in next Thursday. Just bought the truck last week. We don't use salt here, but I guess they do where the truck was registered at one time.

Default gas tank strap replacement

This whole thing sickens me. I know there is a recall, but it doesn't cover the tank itself. In my case, the straps are not that bad. But the straps are bad enough that they have contributed to the gas tank itself rusting, and it has sprung a leak; consistently wet on in a 6x8 inch section. The rest of the tank looks fine.

Ford may have done a 'voluntary' recall for the straps; but it is too late for my gas tank. I just ordered a new tank a few days ago. should be here tommorrow. Guess i have my work cut out for me tommorrow. Anyway, i wish the recall would have covered the tank too. And yes, i was the bottom of my truck on regular basis!

You're still covered. Call a Ford dealership service dept. Make an appt. But if it's a 4x4, don't waste tour time like I did. They told me the skid plate makes it safe to drive and wouldn't replace the fuel straps.

They said I was OK. I had a shield over my gas tank, but they will be doing a recall on that in the future also. Sounds like they used some metal that they shouldn't have and got caught.
As far as not keeping your truck clean and it is our own fault. I call BS. How many people crawl up underneath the truck and clean it. A very few do, most do not.

Call your local Ford Dealership and ask for the Service Dept. , you will need to have your VIN handy for them.
