Default Synthetic Oil

What is the best oil to use? I want full synthetic (It's what I used last time) and kind of want Royal Purple, but in that case I would have to get 5W-30 rather than the recommended 5W-20 because advance auto parts has some good rebates out right now. I was also looking at some Mobil 1 and Castrol which was more than the Mobil 1 but less than the Royal Purple, if it really even matters. Is it a good idea to use 5W-30 instead although I ran 5W-20 last time? I plan to order tonight and it wouldn't be a big deal for me to switch over to 5W-30 and use that from now on. I'm just looking for some guidance on what to buy. Thanks for any responses!

Motorcraft semi synthetic.

Ain't nuttin better.

If it helps you sleep at night, you can give me the extra $40 you would spend on a fancy name brand synthetic.

You won't go wrong with any of the brands you mentioned. I use Mobil one in everything but that's my bias from 30 years ago when they were the only synthetic. Any major brand of synthetic will far exceed what your engine needs.
The second number 20 or 30 describes how the oil will react when hot, the first number 5 how the oil will react when cold. Look in your owner's manual and I expect either viscosity will be ok.

It's actually only gonna cost around 40 bucks with the filter and maybe a small extra so the discount will apply. Someone on the other forum said he prefers 5W-30 but I read somewhere else that it could lower mpgs and hp. I'll double check my manual but Im pretty sure it recommends 5W-20. I'd really like to try Royal Purple just to see but I don't want to cause harm to my engine. Thanks for letting me know that they are all okay!

Well, I would not say nothing is "better", but Motorcraft 5w-20 is a very fine oil and for even 2x the cost of "full" synthetic you would not really see any difference.
About $20 for the oil from Wal Mart and another $4 for the Motorcraft filter and your good.

I couldn't never use an oil that had been dyed. I'm running valvoline 5w 20 and like it a lot.

If it says use 5w-20, use 5w-20. It's the only viscosity I use. And yeah, Motorcraft syn. blend and a Motorcraft filter will do you just fine.

There is not a nickels worth of difference between most motor oils. You will never have a problem if you stick with a good well known name brand like Castrol (use it all the time).
