My truck has 87K miles on it. I have been thinking about switching over to Syn. oil. Has anyone else switched over from conv. to syn. oil? Those that have switched over to Syn. oil, what brand are you using?

This is a subject that can bring up a lot of contraversity. To me if you have run convention oil keep running the same. Ive been told that Syn. oil has a wax substance in it and after time it can stick to parts of the block that can cause problems. My truck has around 118000 on it and im still running 10/40 valvoline.

im running conventional, but will run syn soon. for me, syn will give me longer interval to change oil, maybe 5k instead of every 3k, and could also help the engine run smoother.
on the other side, the dirty side of the conventional oil, may keep any tiny leak, not leaking. syn may clean that and bring up some leaks. hopefully no. im under 50k in my truck

 

What oil have you been running?

 

I really don't know, guessing conventional. I have only had the truck 3 weeks or so. Nothing saying that it's been switched over to syn.

 

With spring and warmer weather around the corner you have the option of running oil additives like lucas with your conventional oil without the worry of starving your oil pump.
