Default Strang noise and hose?

I just noticed a odd noise under my truck and looked under it and saw a hose disconnected does anyone know what it's for? Or what the noise means?

I'm pretty sure that's the vent for the rear end.

The noise was probably the hose flopping around. The vent, from what I understand, it to allow some heat to vent out of the rear diff so it doesn't get too hot. I could be wrong , but thats the way I understand it.

Yepp that's the axel vent hose, allows heat to escape, mine broke when I swapped rear ends & has not affected mine. Plan to fix that on mine tomorrow. I would highly recommend fixing that because the nipple that it plugs to on the axel is hollow & if you drive through mud, rain puddle, etc.. It could allow water or mud to get into the rear end.
