Is your head unit stock? And, what did those JLs go for? I have 6x8 Rockford Fosgates for the rears (PITA to install in a SCab), and 5x7 Sonys in the doors. I'd replace the Sonys, if I can get a better deal on something else...

5x7 and 6x8 have the same mounting tabs on the speaker frames. Yea, they're odd sizes, but bargains can be had. One guy on this forum (in the classifieds) sold 4 Pioneer 3-way 6x8s for $100. Brand new, on Ebay, I got a pair of Rockford Fosgate Prime series 6x8s for $45 - including shipping (it was his last pair, otherwise I would have sprung for 2)! Check Craigslist, too - some closeout stores advertise there under auto parts or electronics. I think you'll be able to find what you need for under $75 a pair - NEW, and close to half that used/demo.

Before you buy, you might want to read some of the older threads on what others bought (Infinity Kappas, Polk, Fosgate, etc) and what they thought of their purchases - THEN shop for the best prices. For example, I personally wouldn't buy Sony Xplods, because the bass was underwhelming, and I reserved them for the doors (as midrange-tweeter combos).

I have a pair of Polk Audio MM571 I got from Crutchfield back in august 2011. I bought two pairs and installed one set in my front doors. I sold that truck before I ever got the other set installed. They are new in box. They are really good for a stock head unit because they are very efficient and get loud without an amp. PM me if they'd help you out. I got them for half price back when they were doing a buy one get one half price sale. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107MM57...571.html?tp=93

that's what im doing, and my friend hooked up bass blockers from best buy in his kicker 6x9's last night an it was a night and day difference from what it was before, no more excessive bass from his 6x9's.

half price of those is more than what I wanted to spend on all 4 speakers. I was thinking about $50 for each pair or speakers maybe 60
