stalling and shifting problems
Hi, I have a 2002 F150 with a 4.6. A couple weeks ago I went to pick up my son from a friend's house and was idling in neutral for about 10 minutes and then when I put it in drive it stalled. It does this pretty regularly now. Except when it's cold. Odd. But after the engine is warmed up it will stall when I put it in drive and sometimes even when coming to a stop sign. I've been shifting to neutral at stops now and quickly hitting the gas when I put it in drive to avoid the stalling. It's also not shifting well while driving. Seems like it's missing second gear. It comes off the line fine but then shudders and stumbles through second til it gets to third. Or maybe it's just going straight to third and it's stumbling because it's not getting enough gas? I've changed the fluid and filter and also the tcc solenoid. Didn't seem to help. Idles and revs perfectly fine in park. My friend who is a mechanic told me it needed a new transmission. Just seeing if there's anything else I can try before investing in a whole new tranny. I don't have that kind of money laying around. Oh and truck only has 113k on it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
