They can pull out, just make sure they are seated in the coil correctly when reinstalling and your good to go.

Do you need new coils? Are you having misfires? If the coils are fine, leave them alone. They are too expensive to be a preventative maintenance item.

If you really feel the need to get some, try these, ARA Parts are all copper coils. I have heard a lot of good about these.

If you have the link to the motorcrafts I'd be interested. Thx

I'm getting some pretty regular stuttering, feels like a misfire but I'm not getting any misfire codes. I'm getting p0171, p0174 system too lean. I cleaned the maf (with maf cleaner) and I've got upstream o2 sensors ordered from rock auto. If anyone has another idea I'm all ears. Thx

171 and 174 are lean codes, you have a vacuum leak if cleaning the MAF does not help.
The O2 sensors will do nothing to fix the code, they are reading the problem (lean), they are not the problem itself.

Ya I didn't think the o2s were the problem but as far as I know they are original with 182,000miles, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to replace them. What's the best way to find a vac leak, have the system smoked?

I would start by checking your pipe/hose for your PCV valve. This is pretty common when both of those codes appear together.

Finding the leak(s) can be a pain sometimes. I have always used carb cleaner spray, just spray the vac lines with the engine running, when you hear a change in idle, your near where the leak is.
I know on the 5.4 the rear elbow on the PCV tube (from pass side valve cover to rear of intake) is a common failure. There are supposed to be some vac lines behind the battery too that leak and are hidden.
It can be a matter of just hand checking all the lines too.

Thx, I'll do some checking for vac leaks. I thought I'd read somewhere that carb cleaner was hard on rubber hoses, or something to that effect.
Blupupher, have you used those ara coils or know someone that has, with good results? For that price I would do them just to have fresh coils.

Oh, while I'm here, I searched and couldn't find anything with the search bar. I need to do my exhaust manifold gaskets. Is there a good quality gasket that are recommended available at the local auto parts store or do I need to get motorcrafts from the dealer?

I have had success using a mixture of dawn dish soap and water. You can see bubbles where the vacuum leak is present.
