I have a 2002 Screw Lariat version and the spare wheel carrier is screwed up. I can, with some trouble, let the carrier down but it refuses to lift. It may be that the male part of the lock is buggered up or just full of rust. My question is, what years are compatable with my 2002. I have access to a wrecked '97 XLT without the security lock and the price of a new carrier at the dealer is $93.60 plus tax. I have no desire to keep the lock system. I would be just as happy if I could remove the male part of the lock from my current carrier and be done with it. Is this possible? There are a couple questions here and I hope I haven't rattled on too long and got everyone confused. TIA

Never mind guys. I pumped the thing full of WD-40 and finally got it working. Would still like to remove the lock if this is possible. And ideas????
