What's the real deal on spark plug problems???
I've read so many things about plugs breaking when they're being removed and about the plugs blowing out of the heads, that I'm really confused as to which model years had which problems. I have a mid year 2003 lariat super crew with the 5.4 engine. Does anyone know for sure what, if any, spark plug problems that I might encounter with this truck? Thanks for any info, Tracka96

most u may see is one blowing out of the head.. the breaking off in the head was the newer 3valve 5.4l just if u change ur plug use penetrating oil is ur friend!

I know the two up by the firewall are a real pain in the **** to get to. That might have something to do with not getting the right angle on it and breaking it off.

I have an 01 Supercrew with the 5.4L. The sparkplug on my # 5 cylinder had blown out about 4 times. The first three times I was able to retap the head and reseat it. The 4th time it blew the thread out and I had to replace the head. They sell high end fixes for this that are recommended when giving your engine more power but I didnt find them until it was too late.
