Default Slip Yoke

New to the forum, thanks in advance for any help. I have a 2003 F150 SuperCrew, 4x4, 5.4. I was looking underneath the other day and took this picture. I believe it is the slip yoke with a damper. I have been noticing lately that my truck will bump slightly on takeoff after coming to a stop, and some of the other threads on this forum pointed me to the slip yoke.

It looks like something here is leaking based on the dirt/grease accumulation. Before I take this apart and apply teflon grease to the splines, is there a bushing or seal that may be causing this or a different problem?

Again, any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Brian

There is a seal to be replaced, the black rubbery part touching the drive shaft is the dust seal which is a part of the grease seal (1 piece). I suggest putting in new ujoints while you have the shaft out. The leak could also be coming from the tail housing gasket on the tranny

Just put in new u joints in my buddys f150. Not hard at all and is definitely worth doing while your driveshaft is off.

Thanks for the info.

I'll probably dig into it this weekend. If it is just the grease seal, that doesn't seem too bad of a job. If it is the gasket at the tranny it seems more complicated. Maybe too much for this guy!
