Thanks, yea that's unique for these trucks not to use any oil. Mine began knock over the winter at cold idle, enough to cause some concern. As it turned out, my daughter borrowed the truck and the boyfriend at the time thought the truck was low on oil and threw in a quart of cheap Travelers oil from the service station and didn't say anything about it. He overfilled it, it wasn't low. Man that wizzed me off.
Changed it out and she's quiet again, - daughter has since broomed that putz. Makes me wish Ford would have put a dummy proof stick in these trucks. A 6 quart hash mark vs a max hash. I do have a 6 qrt hash I scribed myself, but that was given no attention.
______________

The truck definitely likes the fuel, I don't even check mileage anymore lol.

I'm hear ya on that. I don't be satisfied until it looks and runs like it did in 99 coming off the lot.

Pic from the craigslist add when I found it.

How she is currently.(Sorry if the picture is obnoxiously large.)
It's a 1999, 4x4 with the 5.4L. Got it about a year ago with 87,000 mi. on it. Since then I've replaced the headlights, the grill, changed up the wheels and put on bigger tires, and had the intake manifold gasket replaced.
Does anyone know how to take the fender flares off? I can't see why they won't come off.

I love coming on this forum to see what sort stuff there is to do to these trucks.

Maybe if he'd hurry up and finish his refresh on his retro set of lights it wouldn't be like that for much longer
