Default Engine Replacement

NEW TO THE FORUMS. just bought a 97 F150 SC 4x4 with a locked up 5.4. very hard to find a direct replacement, so i purchased a 5.4 out of a 2000/2001 F150. From what i gather, it should be a bolt in and go. Am i going to run into any problems putting it in the 97. The engine is complete with throttle body and exhaust. Then plan on rebuilding the lower end of the 97 engine and put the PI heads on it for a later install. Most of what i read says i will need to use a programmer? why?? Last but not least. The donor engine has a plastic intake on it. Any problem with that.

Thanks for any/all help == Fifty

I just did a motor swap in a 1999 model it had the metal intake vrs new motor with plastic intake. I noticed that the throttle body on the 99 had a water line going to it from the intake the back out to a metal line in the block I can take pictures if needed I used the 99 intake on the 01 motor and it didn't have the hook up for the line. So I put a bolt on it for now. But I plan to swap intakes soon if I were u I would use the newer intake and all. I seem to be having a few problems useing my old intake on my newer motor. Just my 2 cents tho i got a whole post about the motor swap on here if U wanna go look.
