cold air intake
Alright I'm new to this so I need some help. I was just wondering what a cold air intake is and what it does. I bought some flowmaster super 44's for my 97 4.6 and this guy told me they won't make your truck sound any different unless u get a cold air intake. Is that true? Again I'm new to this and am just now getting into modding my truck a bit so don't judge lol

Whoever told you that is a moron. A cold air intake will give you a very quiet sound change, but the flowmaster will cover it up anyways.
Also, paying $200 or more for a CAI on our trucks is pointless. Look up the "Gotts Mod". It is a homemade CAI that costs you maybe 15$ in parts to do. Don't let him talk you into buying a CAI.

The only way a cold air works properly is if you have a good flowing exhaust, with headers, intake and heads should be ported and polished. Think about it in a way if you had more air in, you need it to flow out just as easy. Then you will notice a difference in power and sound.

Yea, the CAI has almost no impact on the sound of the exhaust. It will help give you a little power, and has a bit of a whine to it. Sounds kind of like a supercharger when you really put your foot down.

Yeah, the Gotts mod will open up the flow between the fender intake area and the air filter.
I think what alot of people don't realize is that this modification will really only be beneficial if you spend the majority of your time above 3000rpms. Anything lower than that the OEM intake has enough-of-a cross sectional area to handle that air flow.
