Question Seat belt?

Hello all I am new to your forum as well as to the F150.

I recently purchased a 2002 F150 SuperCab Lariat. I have noticed that the drivers seat belt does not always stay connected. There are times it will stay latched for hours or until I release it. Then there are other times it releases fast.

Today I confirmed if I pull on the belt side it stays tight. However if I jiggle the connection side I can get it to release within 4-8 twists/turns. I am basically placing thumb on one side and fingers on the other and rocking it back and forth the width of the buckle.

The truck only has 30k on it but was in storage for years. Has anyone else had an issue like this? Any ideas on a solution? I was thinking about blowing it out with air compressor and see if that helps and/or spraying some silicon lubricant into it.

Any other ideas? Anyone know if there was a recall by chance? Any help is appreciated.

Buckles wear out sometimes. I don't remember if these ones are attached to a pretentioner or not. That will greatly effect the price and I'd assume a buckle will be a dealer item.

I was thinking the same or maybe a salvaged one but not sure if I trust that.

I just thought 30k is really early to wear out but maybe lack of use caused it. You know a spring broke when it was finally forced to move from a resting position.

Keep ideas coming if you have any.

Spray it to see if it loosens it up if that don't work get one from a salvage yard I've very seldom seen a seat belt not work so I think you will be safe at getting one at salvage yard

Had this prob with my 02 the belt would come out on it's own. Found out after looking the button sometimes didn't engage all the way I fixed it by spraying wd-40 in it and working it I had to use a little screwdrive to hit the outsid of the button area to get it to come up a few times but it worked. I just keep hittin it with wd-40 once a month. Hope this help

I guess I should go jiggle mine around and make sure its good. As poor as the truck does with offset front end crashes. Couple that with an improper seatbelt and I'd probably be dead at a 30mph head on.
