Default Sct tuner, Edge, or Superchips

I have a 2001 5.4 with 127k on it. I want a tuner for mpg. My buddy used to have a 01 with an edge tuner and he beat on it and wreaked his tranny. I'm not gonna beat on it but edge scares me. I'm interested in SCT. What are you guys thoughts? Sorry I know this probably has been discussed before...

You are right, it's been discussed over and over and over...

There is a search button towards the upper right you can use to find all the info you want.

SCT is good.

The edge didn't wreck his tranny. Him beating on it did that. Would have happened without a tune as well.

If you want SCT, which guys around here will suggest, ask Franchi Motorsports. He'll hook you up.

I will say however that edges seem to have a bad rap for ruining trannys. The only three people I know that run edges have lost trannys with all less than 100,000 miles. seems to be a strange coincidence. Granted they aren't the smartest since the did pick the edge chip to begin with

Different views of the argument. Bumping the shift pressure helps prolong the life. Changing the WOT shift RPM could potentially cause issues I suppose.

They could have had an underlying problem already and the Edge combined with driving it harder than normal (to feel the power, right?) could have helped end the life.

My trans went out at 93k with no programmer and moderate driving. Was a TC issue though...

I have a superchips cortex, its not bad, but its not great. I generally use the mileage XS tune, and with that I see about 17-18 around town, 20-21 highway.

I have an edge and have no complaints. The screen had an issue where it would freeze, but i downloaded the fusion software and havent had a problem since.

I can also vouch for their customer service. I thought my edge had thrown my truck into theft mode, the guys at edge helped me out and it turns out the fuel pump died.

My trans is still alive and well, the monitors on my edge saved me a few times on the beach from a melt down, but im sure the other devices offer monitors. I also find the maintnence manager on my edge very helpful as well.

Even on 37's and mixed rural/city/highway driving i still averaged 16-17 mpg on "tow mode"/lvl2. Only adjustments ive made were +% on shift firmness, adjusted for tire size and set my top speed limiter to 200 lol.

Speaking of, whatever happened to gryphon on php?

I'd be happy with those numbers...thing is that ever since I installed my new exhaust, I can't seem to keep my foot out of it. I don't know why? Lol but I'm hoping with a tuner and a lighter foot, I'll see better numbers.

Now does that one offer a current mpg read out or anything like that? Like driving down the road will it tell you if you're getting 16.3 mpg lets say?
