Default Scrapyard Truck Bed Toolbox Score!

Went to the scrapyard this morning to drop off a bunch of fencepost and fencing material and as the guy was weighing my stuff I noticed this toolbox sitting on the side in the dirt. After the guy gave me my $12 for the scrap that I brought in I asked how much for the toolbox. He wanted $60 so I offered $22 (that's all the cash I had on me) for it and he declined but then when I started to walk back to my truck he said, "Okay man, it's yours" - guess he needed the money lol.

Anyhoot, after I got it home, greased the moving spring and other moving parts I found a set of keys for it taped up under the lid. Everything works! Just need to replace the weather stripping but that's about it. Yeah yeah I know it looks like a chest freezer but I love it!

RKI makes some good boxes. All our work trucks had giant RKI boxes in them. I like that tray too. Makes for a pretty good catch-all.

Nice box....both of my toolboxes were second hand that I scored cheap. I rattle canned them with Rustoleum Textured paint. I have a chest box like that in one of my trucks. I like it because it isn't wearing in the bed rails.

M45-1NM, - they still make them, it's a $500 plus box. Nice score!

good score. These boxes are nice, and the fact that it still had the keys is great.
As you said, just some weatherstripping (<$10) and you are good to go.

I was actually right by their Houston location today (like within a mile of it)

Congrats. I was looking for my box for quite some time. A new ProTech x-body box is around $700, more than I wanted to spend. I found a used one for $150, but it was in pretty rough shape and didn't have any keys. I called around and found an aluminum polishing outfit that charged $100 to repolish the box and 2 new lock cylinders for $5/ea. So I have $260 in the box and couldn't be happier.

Thanks. I am very happy with it. You can't tell that the box is 10+ years old.
