Default Run with no trans cooler?

I know *think* the V6's (and the 4.6?) didn't come with an aux cooler unless they have the factory tow package, but believe all 5.4's got one.

If not intending to tow, can/should a 5.4 4x4 SCAB be run without a trans cooler? I pulled the F250 one I had in my '99 (thinking of putting it in my '03) and simply ran a hose as a bypass. Now I have someone interested in buying the '99 intending to put it back on the road, but there's no cooler. Will they have to put one back in?

I want to be upfront with them on what might need to be done.

Thanks.

Andy

P.S. It is still running through the one in the radiator.

My 4.6 F150 and 4.6 Expedition have a factory cooler. In fact, I've never seen one without one.

EDIT: I'm not sure why you'd even want to run without one. The chief cause of transmission failure is heat.

I figured the truck would get parted out, so I was robbing all the "good stuff" before getting rid of it. A "big-enough" aftermarket cooler is less than $50, and all they'd need to do is remove the "bypass" line, and plumb it in with hose. Easy.

I would just buy one. Cheapest one I can find that's a whole assembly is here. $30 for a $3,000 transmission seems like a no brainer.

I'm going to make that recommendation.
