Default RPM drop under WOT

If I go wide open throttle when going down the road my truck will be pulling fine, back off a couple hundered RPM's, then continue back on. Its not in a certain RPM range, usually happenes couple seconds after it downshifts. This a fuel problem possibly? Any ideas would be great. I know im overdue for a fuel filter change, so could that be the cause?

its not a fuel issue. the convertor is locking and unlocking under load. The convertor is basically hunting for the proper RPM to match.

Any clue for a cure of this. Truck is high mileage 170K, so I'm not surprised about it showing wear.

Well actually, I've owned the truck since 142,000 and i havent changed the fluid yet. I was planning on changing it soon, but been fixing other parts of it first. And I would rather have a dealer flush it, to get the whole system cleaned out. I sohuld be getting it changed over my november break(first college break).
