Reverse lights and fog lights on with unlock project.

Ok, I was thinking today about a past post about wiring up the reverse lights to the dome so that it lights up when you unlock the truck. This causes a problem as the reverse lights will come on if you open the doors. I started to try to find a way to get around that and fix it so that it only comes on when the truck is off, and it wont illuminate when you open the door when the truck is on...

I do believe I have found a solution to where I can nor only do that, but get the fogs to light with it also. I am going to need a few things, and a bit of free time when I get the chance. I making this thread so I can take pics of my progress of if and how I did it. Either way, it probably won't be until saturday until I have the time, but I do have an idea of what I am going to be doing.

Already going to get one. Going to need a normally closed one though for this.

A normal 5 pin relay has both a normally open and a normally closed contact.

Might use that then... I'm going to find a wire that turns on with the key only and will then cut dome power to the fogs and reverse lights.

Any ignition wire only turns on in run/crank

Blue/Green
Grey/Yellow
and Red/Black all of large gauge.

I dont think I could use real large gauge. I have a hot wire that was cut from the old radio, and it still has power too. It comes on in ACC mode and ON mode, so I'll probably use that. The ground is with it also.

Alright... had to think quite a bit on this, but I think I finally got it. I plan to use the box under the passenger side dash cover with the 3 relays. I already removed one for the HL flash disable, and Im going to be removing the wires. I am also going to get another relay similar to the one I pulled out, I'll get one at a yard. Im going to get the appropriate plugs also so that the relay will fit, and I can use the existing sockets. The dome light power ill go to the first relay, then to the second. the magnets in the relays will be powered by the loose radio wire I found (aftermarket radio and power only comes on whn key is on or in acc mode) and the dome lights. I'm going to run a cable from the battery also so that I have a full time hot wire to both relays. I popped off the covers of the relay, so I knew how it worked, and figured it out from there. pin #4 gets power when the relay is deactivated, and pin #5 gets power when the relay is activated. So in all, I am going to run a wire to the relay from the dome, then another wire to the next relay from pin #5. I will then run a wire from pin #4 on the second relay to the reverse lights, and splice into the wire to run to the fogs. I will also add in a diode after the second relay so no problems occur. When the doors open and the key is off, the dome light activates and triggers the relay, and it goes to the second relay. since there is no power to the radio, the relay does not trigger, and power is sent to pin #4, therefore activating the reverse lights and fogs. as soon as the key is turned on or to acc mode, power is sent to the 2nd relay and it sends power to an empty pin, and does not send power to either. Now that the plan is all set up, I just need wires, plugs, another relay, a diode, and time. I'll try to get it done this weekend, I just wanted to post an update on this and finally figure out how to do this. I'm also posting a pic of how I plan to wire it.

Nice schematic, but I think you could have made it a little simpler.

I tried to. I thought through this for a few days and ee what I could xome up with. I tried to make use of the relays, and make it simple as possible. But in order to make sure the fogs and reverse lights dont come on while the truck is running, it had to be done. I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end though...
